Describe your collection's theme.: When designing my collection I looked towards the sea for inspiration. There are so many things to be inspired by and for me it was the vast array of textures and colors seen throughout the many creatures that reside in the deep sea. As I was doing my research, I came across a beautiful image of a sea anemone that was home to several clown fish. It possessed a rich velvety texture and a beautiful shade of red. This feature alone is what prompted me to design a collection highlighting the color red using textiles that reminded me of the various textures and movement of the sea and the creatures therein.

What is your favorite part of the design process?: My favorite part of the design process would have to be the final stages leading up to the final product. Whether it be sewing on that last button or that final backstitch — just being able to see something you’ve put so much time and effort into creating, become something tangible is truly a gratifying feeling.

What are you inspired by?: For me inspiration is literally everywhere, be it food, people, music, or even something as simple as a flower growing out of a crack in the sidewalk. Truth be told, my inspiration has no restraints; I receive the world around me with an open mind and simply allow that to guide my creative process.

Who is your favorite designer?: My favorite designer at the moment is Sarah Burton, creative director of fashion brand Alexander McQueen. I really admire her aesthetic and intricate hand; I swear, she never ceases to amaze me.

What is your dream job?: My dream job would be, creative director for Alexander McQueen. I definitely have a ton of work to do but that’s never stopped me before.

Any hobbies outside of fashion design?: I love writing poetry and music; however, eating tops all.

What are your plans after graduation?: After graduation I plan to seek a job as a technical designer. After taking the course, “Technical Design in Fashion”, I’ve noticed myself becoming increasingly interested in that aspect of apparel development and would love to expand my knowledge in that area and many others. During that time, I’ll continue working on the development of my own fashion brand.

What have you learned/any advice for other fashion design students?: Make sure your work ethic matches your ambition.
